Predictable and derivative. It reads like fanfiction. Kuang speedruns through every fantasy trope and arrives at a finish line where no payoff feels like it's been earned.
In 250 pages Kuang didn't give me a reason to be interested in any of the events in this book or any of the characters who were participating in them, and no amount of MCU-level quips will be able to trick me into thinking I'm having fun! DNF.
