Gosh dated non introspective colonial era European/American writers can be such a drag to read! I’m struggling with certain points of Les miserables by victor hugo for the same reason. In all Hugo is actually not the worst about colonialist undertones being endorsed, but passive racism seems impossible to escape in the work of authors in the 1800s to early 1900s. I would give myself grace to go slow or even DNF if you’re to aggravated. Good luck !!
