i have a loving father, so i am glad to not relate to her in that aspect. but i do want to think more about my relationship to love. and while i think i'm willing to give it, i think i need to change how i accept it. and the first step to any worthwhile character or personality change is to read about it, of course.

i’m trying to work really hard at not hating men and not letting fear lead to contempt, even if it’s understandable. i don’t want to feel like any group of people is irredeemable or a lost cause. and men won’t change if no one believes they can. so i’m trying to balance being safe, wise, and loving. and i appreciate that her books always include the message that feminism does not require you hate men.
