The fact that Laurent is so utterly flummoxed by the concept of someone being genuinely on his side that he doesn't know what to do with it... gah. He's so used to fighting this fight alone and he's done it since he was 13 fucking years old and... GAAAAH.

Jfc, every word in this book is destroying me, how is this still so good

I am a creature of simple joys, and the "we must stay quietly pressed together like sardines in our cramped, precarious hiding space while danger prowls outside, never mind how much we're struggling with inconvenient hilarity or arousal" trope will always delight me, but this particular iteration is definitely a favourite.

This book is absolutely full of favourite scenes, but Damen finding out Laurent is actually a consummate swordsman is among the top three.

Huh, the Prince's men all seem well organised, efficient, and super-loyal for some weird reason. It must be a trick. Or it's 'cause he's pretty. ~Damen, excellent judge of character as per usual

Watching Govart get thoroughly trounced (and Damen's reaction to it) will never get any less satisfying :D
