Book one ✅ I do think the war scenes could be improved by some Heated Rivalry-style plot developments and/or by being much shorter - suspect Tolstoy’s editor was on holiday when he turned the manuscript in. The peace bits are good though.

Oof this section has been a tough old chew at times. Heavy on tedious detail, light on plot. <spoiler>Also deeply unimpressed that Tolstoy basically completely repeats the trick of Bolkonsky being dead but not dead - although in a book this long you’re bound to repeat some plot points.</spoiler>
