Everything in the book feels so oppressive “we learned to whisper without sound… to lip read” and “we learned to see the world in gasps” and I kinda hate how easily this feels like it could definitely happen. Especially disgusting when I read “being allotted a Handmaid of their own” women here are a commodity, a prize, but not people.

“We learned to whisper without sound… we learned to lip-read…” instantly puts into perspective just how oppressive the “Angels” are if they had to learn to communicate without sound.
