Constantly cringing at Jay’s inability and honestly refusal to learn Korean customs and how to work Casey’s traditional parents. He is stuck in this mindset of not compromising any of himself for the benefit of being accepted by his inlaws. And Casey’s not teaching him either. Just saying “I can’t marry you” with no explanation

Just finished book 1. The complexity of the Asian-American experience is so well documented here. There’s obviously the internal conflict of not feeling Korean enough or American enough (especially with Casey’s background of being in predominantly white institutions) but there’s also the struggle of ‘what is normal/not a big deal in my culture will be misunderstood and intolerable in white people’s eyes’
