You tend to get distracted while having the conversation, or find ways to avoid it altogether and move it to a text platform so you can control the pace, the language, and the tone at your convenience, while keeping track of what you have communicated for posterity

I am learning so much about conversations and technology through this book. because of this book, I slowed down my audiobook speed to 1.5x instead of the 2x I would usually listen to. I put down my phone face down and muted during my team meeting today and contributed to a wonderful conversation I would probably not have been interested otherwise. I also realized of a mistake I made in a conversation with my husband

It's interesting that we are turning towards technology seeking intimacy, while moving away from our fellow humans, escaping intimacy (like avoiding phone calls and uncomfortable conversations)
It's also interesting how Sherry Turkle explains the requirement to multi-task has become so much a part of life that we are unable to do just one thing in one time, even as simple as having one conversation.
