But all I could think, over and over again, was that I was in a story in which the foolish farmer's daughter makes a bargain with a faerie that ends in her losing everything she loves.

I realised, as I said it, that it was an admission. Not I would never, but I'll never. I was already speaking as though opening that door was inevitable, as though I had made exactly the decision I was pretending I would never make.

This got a little spooky & I love it

He pointed out the gorse overgrowing the stone walls, the heather strangling the old doorways. I could see what he meant then. It did resemble the way the strange trees and vines and flowers flourished across the university. "I sometimes think Camford is like a ruin that's still alive."

Feels like a magical kinder secret history, the friends, the outsider, the knowledge that something bad is coming…
