the atmosphere of this book is so unique, i'm being mindful of when i decide to pick it up again, because i don't want to squander its magic. i'm beginning to realize that the familiarity of stories that take place in Detroit is a soft spot of mine (when done right, of course!). maybe i will give Middlesex another shot, because i tried reading it last year but didn't care much for listening to it on audio.

i am so obsessed with how JCO captures insecurity and conflict. i know so many talked of how much they hate Hannah, but i truly can't see that; she is certainly flawed, but not particularly dislikable. i can understand how she has ended up where she is. and as much as i disagree with her decisions, i can understand them. i can't put this book down, i've begun reading it at work. she's at it again!

i truly can't stop reading so far, despite how repetitive it is at times. i do think that the repetition is a creative choice made for a reason, and i'm not exactly completely turned off by it.
