Cummings can shove it, honestly. A war memoir taking place in a safe “purgatory,” of sorts, it is genuinely a mean-spirited ethnography, even in spots meant to humanize.
Still, occasionally the book’s language heralds his later poetic success, which is compelling. But not enough to make it worth reading his bs. Hoping “M.A.S.H.” does not disappoint like this predecessor does.
