This book was a 3 ⭐️ book up until the ‘NDE’ (not really) described at the end. I was almost moved to 😭 which speaks to the writers ability to capture her story.

Lots of history that enhances’ the story but in my opinion digresses from the story in too much detail. I find myself looking to reconnect with Carol and her life on Cumberland

Great bit on 🐢 generally than more specifically sea 🐢 journey. Apparently, Carol’s species

“Large birds can scoop up turtles in their beaks, lift them in the air, and then drop them on the rocks to break open their shells. The only human known to be killed by a turtle was a Greek tragedian Aechylus, whose bald head was mistaken for a rock by an eagle flying overhead.“

Along the way, we humans had also cut our connection to the wild, Carol believed. Cities were zoos for people. Artificial food was manufactured for the masses. We build our self climate controlled cages and produce pharmaceuticals to help us live longer. What exactly are we living longer for?”

“Carol sought to cut out the money making middleman. Outside with a natural economy that kept everyone alive. Inside was the artificial economy that separated us from the real source. She wanted direct, original relationship with nature, where she used her own hands to acquire the food and shelter she needed.”
