I remember reading this part about Susan as a child and being so sad about it. Reading this part again as an adult, the sadness is deeper and more resonant, for I now know many dear souls in real life who have chosen Susan’s path.

The ape Shift is so very familiar. Pretty sure everyone knows at least one person like this. I think it would be a very therapeutic discussion to for people to hash out who it was who went “ape Shift” in their lives.
