This should be my favorite book. It’s all the things I love. It’s Control adjacent, curated SCP like entities, I should be eating it up. Obsessed.

But I’m not.

I’m 30% of the way through, so I’m not going to say I hate it, but so far I find the fact that the entities the antimemetics division deals with make them forget bores me.

I’ve now hit the second of the parts where it feels like I should be done, only to find I’ve got more to go.

I’m tired, grandpa! I don’t want to hear the same conversations over and over! They’ve forgotten, but I haven’t, and I stopped caring ages ago 😒

This book should have been a novella. I hit the half way point, and it was such a perfect climax I was shocked to see that I was only half way through, and honestly disappointed.

It’s fine. Had the entity not started talking to Quinn I might have forgiven it more. Been more like the hiss, and less like a super lame boogie man. The second it started talking it was less scary, and it wasn’t scary to begin with.

E.E. Duke I get that the fact they forget is supposed to up the tension on my end, but it’s not. Sure, the book is third person, so our narrator could die at any point, but I don’t care. Quinn is just fine. She seems to move through the narration with a laze-fair attitude, and so like her, I also don’t care.

She’s not afraid of the big bad, so why should I be afraid of the big bad?

God. I want to be obsessed with this book so bad! It’s literally my favorite thing, contemporary paranatural bureaucratic horror. But I hit play, and I just shrug.

I’m going to finish, and I hope it turns around, because I want to be in love with this more than any other book I’ve ever read.
