I have always felt connected to the fairy tale of Frau Holle. The feeling that you can still achieve something with hard work, even if the beginning isn't great.

Cinderella. It’s my all time favorite from the first time I listened to my mum read it through today. “Have Courage. Be Kind”. Always believe in yourself, find the good in others, never give up on yourself dreams & more.

It's maybe a sad answer. But I always connected with The Little Match Girl.

Jack and the beanstalk… but the mom since my boys are constantly doing foolish things. Hopefully one day it will bring a windfall of gold. 😆

Oooh good question! Makes me have to think. Probably The Little Mermaid. I grew up struggling to speak and connect, and all I wanted was to be able to interact with the rest of the kids at school and be "normal". Kinda relates to her losing her voice, maybe? That's the closest story I can think of that connects to myself.

Interesting question. I have always very much related to Ariel, from The Little Mermaid, Disney edition.

Probably a combination of Rapunzel, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid, of which the elements I relate to are combinations of their Disney movies plus the original tales.

If I have one, a fairy tale/folktale that would be my life, then I have no idea what it would be. Nothing comes to mind..

Which one would you pick for me as the folk expert, mi amor? Because all I can think of are Disney movies where the prince is just some nameless love interest (I haven't seen any since I was wee little, details are faint) and the one story of the Dutch boy plugging a dike with his finger all night that I'd forgotten my grandma used to read to me when I was young (no relation to anything about my personality, just my Dutch heritage and trying to think of more unique stories)

Besides Little Red Riding Hood for the way we met? "Beauty and the Beast," Disney version, but in the same context as Paul (you know which guy I mean) and not in the context of Prince Adam.

Good pick! I'm seeing more fans of Little Mermaid than I thought! Probably the most loved fairy tale (Disney) after B&B, but so different in its message between film and tale...

I would say, there are many tales that I love and adore, but a tale to describe my life? The Honest Woodcutter; While I'm not always an Aesop fan, this one suits me. I like the various interpretations beyond the obvious; honesty is the best policy, stability (regular axe and work) over inconstancy (how long will the gold and silver axe keep you fed).

Oooooh! I had forgotten about that one. <3 My dad owned a beautiful little clothbound edition of Aesop's fables I adored, and that one was really good!

What a fascinating question! I love it, and it really makes me think. I have four possibilities. Two of them only count because of my feelings of abandonment and isolation when I was little. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," and "Hansel and Gretel" explore darkness and loneliness, and I often struggled with those feelings growing up. Here are the hopeful tales that reflect my life.

1. One Eye, Two Eyes and Three Eyes. A not well-known but interesting story about a sister who is mocked because she looks different than her stepsisters. It's funny, because their perceptions are different from what ours would be. I've always been different and felt different, but I like how the story is not as much about the romance but about a girl taking care of herself. I love the goat helper, too. They tack the romance on, but it's unnecessary.
2. "The Three Little Men in the Wood," "Diamonds and Toads," "MOther Holle." I relate to these three similar stories because I have been blessed to have kind people who have helped me through the years, and their kindnesses have provided me with many gifts. I hope to reciprocate and always hope to be kind. It is through kindness and resilience that we survive despite the darkness. Idealistic sentiments, people will say, but they are what I believe and learned, and they are how I persevere in this cruel world.

The feeling like an outsider but being comfortable in my own skin at the same time. I got the sense Belle was the same way.

Ooooo I *love* this question! I think mine would be "The Little Mermaid," but not because of the plot (no princes for me!). It's more in relation to the themes of the story - the deep yearning for a different world and feeling like an outsider despite your best attempts, haha. (Maybe this has something to do with my likely neuro-spiciness, lol.)

I personally am torn between 12 Dancing Princesses (I love the exploration to a hidden world) and any variant of the Seven Brothers
