Is modern politics not just feudal policy with an elected Tsar? What differentiates this from Rurik? In terms of the podpol'e - is the willingness of the populace to release the face-eating leopards on other part of the populace indeed not an expression of the irrational non-self interest choices the mouse insists exists?

lol i cant believe i casually had never read this and have written several essays on it including one at my university final exam looool

contrasting this against 107 and stalin biography is v interesting - in many ways the idea of either dictator or nonsensical 'maverick' (in sarah palin's voice) have been the only two available options in modern politics since the reagan years with a brief interlude w/ barack

Does conservatism, indeed Russia, not exist purely on the definition of what it is NOT, and the enforcement of violence on those it is not? And again, is this not just pure feudalism? Did we ever escape long enough to 'return' in a form of techno-feudalism? Were we not there the entire time, with a small reprieve from the Big Society/Big Stick era?

reading this together with Stalin and 107 Days thinking abt leadership and its interaction with power. The populace has been trained to desire a dictator- a defining personality that will recast the nation in his own image. Therefore a centrist or someone willing to concede at the height of power can become an existential thread to the nation - in that it expresses the non-immutability of the structure.
