It’s fine I guess but I don’t like it as much as the other NYRB noir I read earlier this year.

I already feel bad for saying that :P It doesn’t do anything wrong really.
You can like it less without feeling bad even if it does nothing wrong :) What was the other one?
In a Lonely Place and Nightmare Alley. I found them better written on a technical level and they also had a lot more going on. I think this will get better later on though.
I liked in a lonely place, I never read nightmare alley but I loved both movies. I think crime noir works better on the screen for me.
I think the same for me too. I really like the visual elements of noir. But I’m not sure I can really say that without having read Chandler, Cain, Hammett, etc., who I’m sure are on a different level.
