Through the first three chapter I think the author (Jesmyn Ward) has done a great job of telling what kind of person Esch (the protagonist) is and not only her I think she’s done a great job on writing the supporting character as well. This early on in the book you can see pretty serious conflict within the characters. So I think this book is very good.
