Mr Pollan, what about Julian Jaynes' theory of the bicameral mind suggesting language is ~4000 years old? And what about Joe Frank's stream of consciousness storytelling from the 80s and 90s?
At this point in the book I find Pollan an incredibly brave author for tackling this elusive subject. I am learning about the sentience of other life, about thought, and even unconsciousness.
