Another chair, another metaphor, this time the toilet throne. There’s a dream about a turd - not just any turd, The Leader of The Turds. A Rick and Morty parallel reality, The Planet of The Turds. I can’t believe I’m praising a book, which spends such effort on the escapades of a shit, but this is the most well written story of a shit.

It’s taking a very long time to read this book - and I’m enjoying every second. The time is extended due to the amount of times I feel compelled to stop: highlight something, write a reflection or re-listen for the comedy value.

If nearly nothing happened in this book, and I read Franzen describe the act of taking a mug from the cupboard and pouring a cup of tea, I imagine I would be intellectually stimulated.
