I'm just at chapter 4, but I can't help comment on the cultural differences in "work ethic". Where I am from, for what happened to Jane, she would have been given at least 2 full weeks of sick leave that is not optional, it could go up to a month if needed. And working overtime here is forbidden, unless you have special permission and it is extra paid 100%. Also we are required to take our paid leave, we can't refuse
