It’s getting better… I find the passages about patience and following tougher paths encouraging as a kind of lapsed Christian myself. The past few weeks I’ve been squaring my old faith with the values and identity I’ve gained since growing into adulthood, and thinking of which words still ring true. That’s not necessarily this book’s doing, but it’s a piece of the journey.

there’s a passage at the end of the section on “I shall not be in want” where Keller describes a rebellious ewe, or “fence-crawler,” in his flock. certain sheep follow her, and eventually he has enough and butchers her, describing this as “the only solution.” he then extends this as a grim warning to what he calls “carnal christians.”
