I keep asking myself why this needed to be a fantasy, because the fantasy element feels so barely there.

I’m a little underwhelmed I won’t lie.

I’ll be interest to see how Cleopatra is ultimately portrayed in this book. Obviously at first she’s young and somewhat naive, but I think authors sometimes try too hard - especially in historical fiction - to make their protagonists likeable/reasonable.

I finding some of this a little absurd but I wonder if that’s because i inherently find the ides of monarchy absurd
