I had read about this in Otaku USA a long time ago. I remember thinking, "Wow, this sounds awful," and for a long time cracking jokes about another super-popular series having "Pokemon-style battles" with the enemies, referencing this series and its Otaku USA review.
I figure if I continue to use that joke, I really ought to give this a read to make sure that that review (or how I remember it) is accurate

Granted, I'm probably not the intended audience for an Evangelion spin off, but I'm not really enjoying this at all.
The school play bit was amusing, but otherwise this seems to be a "high school chosen one vs. evil monsters" that's taking itself way to seriously. This concept is so overdone at this point, that if you aren't trying to poke at least a little fun at yourself, it just gets to be too much, you know?

Ok, I know I'm not far in this, and it's been years since I watched (and couldn't understand) the original Evangelion, but...
Is it just me or is Shinji really out of character? Actually, I think just about everyone's out of character. Why isn't Shinji cripplingly depressed?
