One reason this book feels like a slog is the long duration of their affair. It's difficult not to scream at this piece of shit predator. Margaux's faulty attempts to reclaim her power--by putting on her bratty cheerleader voice, by bossing Peter around--are especially heartbreaking. I don't want to hear any more about the inside of Peter's mind, it's only darkness there.

Neige Sinno called this book dreary, and I feel that. The family dynamics Fragoso describes are very complicated, and I appreciate the unlikely ally-ship of her otherwise abusive father. Devastating record of grooming that hit an all-too-familiar place.
