Do you ever re-read a book you loved as a teenager and end up wondering why you were such an idiot?

Em x YES. I remember being 14 and having my first girlfriend and reading Keeping You A Secret by Julie Anne Peters and being in love. I reread it about 2 years ago and felt like teenage me was a huge disappointment when it came to books haha.

Jay This is literally me with every angsty YA romance - loved them when I was 16, but now I'm almost 20 and they make me cringe

Najma I remember I read the first book of the mortal instruments when I was 16 and I loved it. I read 5 books of it over a year before I started to feel like an idiot and decided not to read the last book.

Ana ♥︎ Me with Vampire Academy series. What was my 18 yo ass thinking?

message 8: by Najma (new)

Najma And i can't decide if I should change the ratings of the books which were my favourites at that time.

Cece Rose Well, looks like it's not just me then!

@Ana ain't no way I'm gonna read VA again then, my teen self loved them! Haha. Not a chance I'll ruin my memory of them.

@johanna, I wouldn't worry, you gave it the rating you connected with at the time, would take forever to change loads of ratings!

@Janni I too am terrified to re-read.

@jay honestly, why did angsty ya romance appeal so much back then! I can't even. I'm so embarrassed by some of my old books. I've even hidden them in a box rather than on my bookshelf.... Ooooops ;)

Seon Ji (Dawn) YES!

message 11: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia For me it's different in 80% of the time. I'll reread a book, acknowledge its faults, but probably will still have enjoyed it.

message 12: by Rena (new)

Rena Oh yes! I just re-read a series I loved years ago -well let's just say I should have left it as a happy memory.

message 13: by Najma (new)

Najma I will turn 18 in 3-4 months, I am ashamed of the books I loved when i was 13-14. But I want to read as many YA books i can before reaching adulthood, cause i dont think grown up books will give me that amount of happiness plus i havent seen an adult fangirl.

message 14: by Rowdy (new)

Rowdy I didn't read actual books when I was a teenager. really started getting into books when I was in my thirties.

message 15: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Tim I'm not past teenagehood yet, but there are some books that I once read—and even wrote—that if I re-read them, I cringe multiple times and question my younger self's decisions.
