Mandel How are you liking Somtow? I've been thinking of reading him for a long while - ever since doing some digging into contemporary Thai literature to find a book for the series on Asian literature we were doing in the book club I organize. I ended up picking (and ultimately loving) Blind Earthworm on the Labyrinth, by Veeraporn Nitiprapha for the book club, but I still have Jasmine Nights on my e-reader, unread.

Sam Pulham Hey Mandel, unfortunately I can't fully endorse this one. It has a certain insane, bombastic energy, and quite a lot of cool ideas. Even some moments of lyrical beauty. A lot of the time, though, I found myself frustrated by the undercooked dialogue and lashings of cliché. Still trying to get hold of that book! You mentioned it a while back, but it doesn't seem that readily available right now. Will keep trying.
