Sharon Loves to Read Hi Shea! How "techie" are these books? I don't like sci-fi because of hating the "techie stuff," but space opera is usually ok.

Shea That’s a great question! It’s definitely a space opera, more akin to Star Wars, Dune, or something by Ursula le Guin or Gen Wolfe and nothing like The Martian or Interstellar. It is set in the real world, about 17,000 years in the future, but I love it because it feels so familiar. He has really thought through what the world could be like and what things would still be important to humanity then. Like they discuss Homer and Shakespeare! It’s much more philosophical and epic, and I’d describe it as realistic fantasy in space. Of course there are things like warp travel and advanced weaponry but none of that is the emphasis of the story. It really shines in its writing which is so lyrical and beautiful, in my opinion.

And if you do take a chance on it, it is a SLOW burn. I loved the first book, but when I go to the second one, my mind was blown by the vastness and depth of the story. It’s pretty straightforward but has such beautiful depth to it as well. It’s just a stellar space opera, if that’s what you’re looking for. That’s probably more than you wanted to know, but I hope you get to read it!

Sharon Loves to Read I have heard it’s a wonderful story, but if I have to read math, science, buttons, data, and knobs, it won’t matter how great the story is. I’ll be bored to tears. Thank you! You helped out a lot. Putting this on my list. I love deep and beautiful stories.💜
