‘Warren swatted his thigh with the rolled-up program, and smiled up at the closed curtain that luffed with the activity of stagehands.’

Oh Bancroft, don’t think I don’t also recall how the buffel grass luffed in the Towers of Babel series also. Luffed is a wonderful word.

Bernhard What really interests me, do you know all the words Bancroft uses? I adore Bancroft's writing though it is quite challinging to read for me as a non-native speaker because of the advanced vocabulary used.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* As a native speaker I still need a dictionary with him. It’s enlightening and not pretentious like it could be with lesser authors.

Bernhard That is encouraging. Yes there is the risk in using uncommon words that it comes off as pretentious or elitist but it doesn't feel that way to me with Bancroft. It feels like he does it out of love for the language and originality rather than being a smart-ass with a thesaurus.
