So far I do not like this book.
We know the world is different something happened, but what exactly happened isn’t clear. There is no background information at this point I would’ve liked the book to have started off with what happened to make the world the way it is what are these two sisters up against? We know at the start that their parents were alive, but they aren’t now what happened to them?

The shimmer people have marked tabby and a couple of her friends. The mark is a handprint with symbols and in order to survive they have to eat human flesh, but they’re not a full shimmer person.

At this point, the tax derby ferret pom-pom has come to life and is now part of Bramble‘s body. We still don’t have the exact answer as to why the world is the way it is but it seems to be caused by something electrical. This book has a lot going for it, but it really needs some backstory and this whole pom-pom and bramble thing is taking away from the book right now.
