By the summer of 1987, Ted Bundy was no longer front page news in Northwest papers, except during the week preceding each new execution date. The Green River Killer had supplanted Ted.

Ted muttered some derogatory statements under his breath.
"You impress me not, sir..." the judge replied.
"Well, I suppose the feeling is mutual, Your Honor."
"I'm sure it is, bless your heart."

In the empty courtroom, Ted studied the dental exhibits of his teeth and the pictures of Lisa Levy's bite marks. I have no idea what his thoughts were.

It was the first time, the very first time in all the years since 1974, that a piece of physical evidence had been linked absolutely between a victim and Ted Bundy... and the courtroom erupted.

And now began one of the most bizarre sequences I have ever seen in a courtroom. Ted Bundy would be, at the same time, the defendant, the defense attorney, and then the witness.

Farmer gave an interview of the Tallahassee Democrat after Ted's arrest, an interview in which he characterized Ted as being "a person very disturbed mentally. He is emotionally disturbed. Attention being drawn (to him) is of interest to him. He enjoys playing the game. He appears to enjoy watching law enforcement people muddle in their ignorance."

Neither girl had broken nails, no damage at all to their hands that would indicate they had a chance to fight for their lives.
Pathologist Wood had been in practice for sixteen years; he had never seen anything like what he was seeing before him.
Rage, hate, animalistic mutilation. And why?

Karen did not remember anything either. She too had been sleeping when the man had hammered blows on her head.

Apparently everyone had been expecting Ted to run, but no one had done anything about it, and now they ran in circles trying to get him back.

"He (Ted) is the most cocky person I have ever faced. He tells his lawyer what to do. He arrives carrying armloads of books, as if he were an attorney himself. He sends notes to the judge and calls him at night. He refuses to talk to me or any other prosecutor."
