At this point, Chesterton finishes his reviews of modern day philosophies. The just of this chapter was to conclude the danger of separating Christian virtues from the fullness of Christianity - which is what most modernity was doing. He surveys that materialism, pragmatism, evolutionism, all lead to the suicide of thought, or, the end of the rope of thought itself (this part gave me a headache a bit). It is clear he is moving the book through this in order to prove the importance of a paradox. Finally, he concludes that the worship of will, as Nietzscheism had done, is also without standing as the worship of will is the negation of will. every choice comes with the negation of another - art is only art because of the frame.
