It seems that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is using the exposition as a way of reasoning why he doesn’t show the investigative clues in his books. Addressing it as basically boring and, Watson, as the narrator (and by extent, the audience) does not find it interesting when I firmly believe that is the opposite of the case.
