Even status earned as a military member, did not help black people avoid racist mistreatment. Refused access to ride the bus, etc. Contradiction of better treatment for German prisoners than American blacks. Question of what are we fighting for in a country that doesn’t value us as an equal. Concept of the “double Victory” they were fighting for (in war, at home). Southern whites’ “northern agitators”
