I am exasperated by the fevered interiority of its narrator. His ruminations, though ornate, feel indulgent, even self-mythologizing.
The encounter with Nastenka, strikes me as implausibly precipitous. That she would entrust herself so readily to a stranger, lingering in nocturnal confidences and permitting such swift intimacy, defies both instinct and credibility.
