Depression, possession, and depersonalisation. Three different things, with similar outcome: a lack of sincerity and authenticity, as though something is speaking through you. It’s taken me until 76% to figure out that’s what bugs me about this book. Whether characters are depressed humans, knowing androids, or androids who believe they are human, all think they are being sincere - and none are convincing.

Do these characters never mean anything they say, or do they always mean everything they say and change their minds seconds later? I can’t decide, but it’s giving me whiplash worse than my mother or most of my exes.

Less of an asshole now. And somehow, more human.

This is difficult to enjoy because Deckhard is such an asshole.

This is an interesting book, but I don’t understand it. Perhaps I am too autistic. I think I would be just as happy with electric animals and androids as I would with natural ones, and I can’t empathise with Deckard’s or Iran’s depression surrounding this. Maybe because I’ve always felt, and been told, that I’m not human.
