Rereading this for the 4th or 5th time and I'm in a bad mood, I will admit. But I'm honestly annoyed that she keeps referring to Matthew as "the vampire." It puts distance between his character and the reader in a way that is unhelpful. Yes, we're supposed to respect what a dangerous creature he is, but "the vampire" also objectifies him in a way I find gross.
