After roundup Madora has a BBQ in celebration, Opal and Jacob dance and the connection deepens. Before going to the line, Jacob spoke to Rand about courting Opal, we find out she’s only 14! Rand tells him he has to wait until she’s 16. Christmas comes & Ruby has a little girl w/ help from Rand. Little Squirrel has falling sick. Jacob talks to Mrs. Robertson about not courting Edith & Joel accepts him as “Pa”

While rounding cattle, Jacob got a concussion when knocked off his horse. He recovers & talks to Rand about becoming the pastor. It’s time for roundup, Opal & her pupils are helping Rand & hands bring in cattle. Ada Mae gets caught in quicksand in the river. Luckily they’re able to get her & the horse out. Opal puts all the blame on herself for everything when in reality it’s just life living in the badlands.

Ruby & Rand sent Opal to New York to stay w/ the Brandon's for the summer. While she enjoyed & slightly recovered there, she was awfully homesick. Jacob arrived in Medora & Mr. Robertson took him & Joel under his wing as a ranch hand. The men went after the drifters, they had a standoff where 1 drifter was killed & the other wounded, but Mr. Robertson was also killed. The Harrison's are helping them & Opal met Jacob.

Ruby continues to scold Opal from not being a proper lady & Opal cannot wait for school to be over. She wants to convince Ruby to not make her go back to school but to be on the ranch. Lucky schools over for the summer now. Per started walking & Ruby is feeling sick, which signs are pointing to another baby on the way. The man Opal & Atticus strung up is sticking around town still and now he has a friend with him.

Fatherhood for Jacob is off to a rough start. In 24 hours he lies to a townsman looking for his horse & buggy Melody had rented, resigned from his position with the church, & left in the middle of the night with his son. The man has said he found the horse by the bridge & a piece of fabric on the rail.
