I DO NOT like portrayal of female characters in such a way where you reduce them to just bimbos who can do naught but check out male characters & be confused about who to chose.
First Jondralyn, now Ava.
In the span of one chapter she is appreciating Nail, then Jenko. And then she is checking out Gault in a life threatening situation and post that she is admiring Aeros in a mentally fugue state! Like seriously?

Okay, I think the punishment for Ava came in one fell swoop and a little too completely, atleast that's what it felt like. A bit more suffering was required but it seemed like the author wanted to close the book on Ava.

Don't know if any authors have done this, I certainly haven't seen it, but I'd truly appreciate a character like Ava being punished. See her become destitute & a desolate wretch, see her suffering for her choices.

I've never read a story that has gone on for as long as this one has, without the chosen one being made to realize that he is the Chose One & the fate of the world hangs in the balance. So at least in that regard, this book is different. 😁

Overall rating of the book will obviously come later but I can say right now with a 100% certainty that this book has the WORST cast names I have ever read in Fantasy book. 😫🤢
Truly bad choice of names, not even a single one feels good, not one!

Bloodeye Stallions don't make sense to me at all. Like, the mount of an assassin being something as distinct as a Bloodeye Stallion, I mean could there be a more obvious giveaway for an ASSASSIN?

The way lore of this world is being established/delivered feels slightly on the info-dumpy side of things. The lore is interesting and the world seems to have a sense of history, but I feel it's just a touch heavy handed, or delivered earlier than it needed to be.

One of the worst names for a protagonist, hands down! "Nail"
Like, doesnt matter how you pronounce it, it's always gonna be NAIL!

Shawcroft reminds me of Brom, not that he is the only other keeper of the chosen one I've read.
I always wonder, why do these characters always have to be such utter asses?!?!
I know it's a trope and all but you could do the whole mysterious thing without being so harsh to the young chosen one, can't you? 😅
