I disagree that the example scene was very fleshed-out. It still read like a summary more than a scene, and involved the kind of connection that should probably have developed over weeks, not about fifteen minutes. But I get that it’s an example scene and it has to be short, or this book would be unwieldy. The examples being so meh actually makes me feel better about my own writing.

If you’re at all introspective, you’re going to do at least a LITTLE BIT of this on yourself as you read, too.

Why does the name Ruby make me cringe every time I read it?
