So kind of wish we got more insight into why Nick didn’t get the hair care or busboy jobs but clinched the back room cook job. because it feels like we’re supposed to assume it’s a Colorism even in Harlem thing…but Douglass doesn’t actually say that so it kind of just sounds like Nick looks busted even with his beauty shop haircut.

I’m just gonna have to make peace with this adaptation being obsessed with its 17 year old protagonists even tho GG is kind of painfully about how 30 year olds in 1921 feel like their whole youth is behind them and they have no autonomy to make their lives better culminating in a failed Romeo and Juliet esque Elopement
