Apparitions in Tennessee (ch.2) begins by talking about the start of the Klan in Pulaski, Tennessee, the pseudo-bureaucratic system of it, as well as the crimes of the early klan. Frank McCord, Pulaski and the early Klan seem to be the main focus in the first six pages of this second chapter.

Andrew Johnson is burning in hell and that’s a small comfort for me.
It is interesting seeing the perspectives of “radicals” of the time like William Pitt Fessenden, Thaddeus Stevens, and George Boutwell. It really shuts down the lazy argument people like to use of “these men were a product of their time”, to justify racism.
