okay this has GOT to do something with the speed of light being faster than the speed of sound. if maomao and them were at the middle with the evening bell and heard the thunder after the bell, but saw the lightning at the north with the bell, then maybe the eldest who heard it almost as soon as the lightning even tho he was farther south?? ugh idk my head hurts
