Finished Book I. I'm obsessed; it's so good I can't stop talking about it. Stop whatever you're doing and please consider reading Middlemarch. I heard it doesn't even get good until later, but it's so good NOW. It's so poignant and compassionate and full of a wonderful kind of gentle humanity.
It's a very tender exploration of the human condition -- who doesn't want that?

I think one of the most remarkable aspects of Eliot's writing is her observations on human nature that feel so highly specific to me (I can relate to them so strongly) and then realizing that probably everyone relates to them too; there is a universality in our experiences as humans that she taps into.

It’s a curious spot to end on halfway— not a cliffhanger but a calm, meditative reflection on the paths our life could take. All the pieces are in place for everything else to unfold.

The more I read, the more convinced I am that George Eliot may be the greatest author I've ever read.

Finished Book 2, going to take a small break. Book 2 expanded the cast of characters and the world of Middlemarch significantly, which makes the book richer but made me anxious to get back to Dorothea. Even still, I love how there is something in every character that is relatable and, in fact, rather lovable. It's also fascinating to see the chess pieces of their lives falling into place...
