After the Redwall series’s anti-rat propaganda, it’s nice to read a book about anthropomorphic animals where rats are nice. The rats even acknowledge how it’s kinda unfair how they are demonized, but their squirrel and rabbit cousins are well liked.

There’s a bird!
He’s a crow named Jeremy, he’s a lad just a year old, and he collects shiny things for his lady friend.
There’s also an owl. He acts exactly as you’d expect an owl to act.
