Now my words haunt others. I stay with them throughout their day and into their work. It’s a profound and humbling thing to realize this: to realize not only the power reading, and writing, has to change the world but my own place in this work. It is a political act, this demand to be seen and read across genres on our own terms and not as some sidekick existing only to save the white hero.

Language is never enough. Any discrete collection of words and grammar captures the analog reality of human experience no better than a net catches water. We are all of us made of stories half-told, half-understood, changed each time in that lawless space between the saying the listening.
