King just referenced W.W. Jacob's story "The Monkey's Paw." Guessing King had been thinking about writing his own version for a while, as he published "Pet Sematary" in '83. ("Dead Zone" was '79).

We are now meeting a seller of lightning rods. This HAS to be a reference to Ray Bradbury’s “Halloween Tree.”

I know reading to books by the same author at the same time is crazy work, but I'm in a King mood, and "Misery" is technically a re-read for me.
