I like that this takes place in SF, in a neighborhood where I spent a lot of time, even. It's an interesting idea for a book, too. But OMG, the writing is not great, and most jarring of all is the "dialogue" -- people do not speak this way! The spoken conversations read like email written by AI, full of clumsy exposition and overwritten sentences that no human would say out loud in a natural exchange.
