One thing that I found interesting about the introduction is this book was inspired by a seemingly irrelevant event that actually has a lot to do with the story. The fact that the author's initial inspiration was from the death of a boy that "would have graduated... along with the seniors who's story [he] tells" is really powerful to me. Who knew that his death would spark something so amazing that I now get to read?

One thing that I found interesting about the introduction is that this book was inspired by a seemingly irrelevant event that actually has a lot to do with the story. The fact that the author's initial inspiration for writing a book about inner-city gifted students was the death of a teenage boy that "would have graduated... along with the seniors who's story [he] tells" is really powerful to me (Corwin 8). Who knew that the relatively common death of a teenager in inner LA would inspire a story that sheds light on stories that rarely get shared, especially in neighborhoods like these?
