~You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t get it to drink~lol
•When having a debate, ask if new evidence/info would change their mind.If they are dead set on refusing to change, then there is no point in having debates
•Always lead with compassion + curiosity. If youre being a ~logic bully~ it will cause them to double down that ur wrong, despite any new(+good)evidence you may provide

One way to show kids that we must constantly be in scientist mode, practice unlearning and being able to pivot our view when new information is available by having kids review textbooks from the 1950s and see how much things have changed since then.
Don’t have identity foreclosure where you align with your first identity + then never evoke or change your opinion as you grow older.
A healthy mind, is an open one.

-Kids need frequent practice of unlearning; Can teach them to be fact checkers&have myth busting sessions for fun
3 ways to teach them how to do this…
1.Interrogate information instead of just accepting it.
2.Reject rank&popularity as a proxy for reliability.
3.Understand that center of info is often not the source
Active learning leads to deeper understanding& requires more mental effort

I wonder if those who naturally go in scientist mode (excited to learn/have no issue admitting when wrong/frequently changes minds when new info is released, etc)are actually just neurodivergent?
I think MANY should read this book.Unfortunately, I have the feeling that those who have the ability to change, are probably the only ones reading this?
I want my dad to listen to this one :(

The author says we have 3 main modes of personality in all of us: Preacher,Prosecution+Campaigner. There is a 4th model, which is the one we should all strive for; Scientists. Unfortunately, being intelligent makes it more difficult to admit when wrong or to change beliefs, will fall back into confirmation+desirability biases instead of changing our mind when it would benefit us to do so.

~Progress cannot happen without change & those who cannot change their minds, cannot change anything~
This was the quote at the start of this & I agree with it. I think it’s funny how we sometimes hear facts, esp as children, that we go into adulthood still believing despite being false.Frogs WONT boil to death if you slowly increase temperatures. Our blood ISNT Blue on the inside & turns red when it meets air lol
